Nostalgia galore!

Hi

If you’ve been reading my newsletters for a while, you might remember that my husband is keen to relive his youth by way of clubbing. We haven’t made it to Ibiza (yet) but the next best thing is an afternoon of clubbing in Worcester. Honestly. Unbelievably, the club we went to did exist in the 90s and is still there today. And from what I remember, it was exactly the same! I’d only been there a handful of times before because I preferred a different club which was a little less intimidating but sadly turned into a lap dancing club before it got knocked down. If you’re local, it’s Tramps and Images (I’m an Images girl). They played all the old classics from the 90s, things like Rhythm is a Dancer and Ebeneezer Good, as well as songs you would never have found in a club in the 90s, like the Spice Girls and BWitched. That segment almost had Mr W heading for the door but I loved it, secretly, obviously. It ran from 3pm to 8pm so we were home at a very civilised hour with no impact on my swimming slot at the lake the following morning :-)

To celebrate the launch of Wild Swimming at Croftwood Lake, I managed to persuade my daughter to come to the lake with me. All I wanted was someone to take pictures of me swimming and she went above and beyond and decided she’d have a swim too since it isn’t that cold anymore. She loved it. A convert!

Reading and watching

I’ve just finished reading The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden. It’s a psychological thriller, not my usual thing, but it was gripping, so well written and kept me guessing until the very end. It’s being made into a film which will be brilliant.

The second in Elsie Silver’s Rose Hill series was brilliant if verging on slightly too smutty for me at times. I loved the characters and the storyline though. It’s set in Canada in a small town, although it has all the vibes of a cowboy romance so I had to keep reminding myself it’s not Montana!

After both of those I needed something less fraught so I chose The One We Fell in Love With by Paige Toon. I’m still quite early in the book but it’s got me hooked with the premise and I can’t put it down. It’s about identical triplets who are now in their late twenties and their relationship with the boy-next-door, who they all fell in love with when they were teenagers… isn’t that a brilliant start to a story?

We’ve finished watching Yellowstone up to the end of season 3. Love it. Can’t wait to watch the next series. Have you seen any of Simon Reeve’s Scandinavia series on the BBC? I’ve only seen the first one so far but it was fascinating. I’m guessing you might like it given that you probably like Iceland? It features in the second episode I think which is exciting. As ever with Simon, you get to see a different side to these places from the impression you might have had before so I’m looking forward to seeing what he gets up to in Iceland.

So until next time, happy reading!
